Revealed: 'How Emiliano Martinez spent deadline day' after Man United transfer failed to materialise - as new details on his attempts to force through move emerge
Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez reportedly spent deadline day at his club's training ground in the hope of being able to move to Manchester United .
Martinez, 32, was said to be at Villa's Bodymoor Heath training ground in Warwickshire as he anticipated a switch to the Red Devils having missed two of his side's opening three Premier League games so far.
According to The Athletic , Emiliano spoke to his Argentina team-mate, current United centre-back Lisandro Martinez , in an attempt to make the switch happen.
However, Ruben Amorim 's side did not make a formal approach until Martinez returned to Birmingham for pre-season training, after which they enquired about a potential loan deal to the Villains.
A move then failed to materialise on deadline day as Amorim instead chose to strike a transfer for Royal Antwerp's 23-year-old Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
United were potentially put off by the cost of a move for Martinez, who earns more than Andre Onana based on his current contract at Villa, with Emery's side claimed to have set a £30million fee for the Argentine shot-stopper.

As Monday's transfer deadline of 7pm drew ever closer, Martinez finally opted to fly to Argentina for their World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Ecuador.
Manchester United, Aston Villa and Martinez’s representatives declined to comment.
It comes after Amorim's side agreed a deal worth £21.7m with the Belgian side and there will be no sell-on clause.
Lammens has agreed a five year contract at Old Trafford and comes in to solve Amorim's problem between the sticks.
A club statement read: 'Manchester United is pleased to confirm that Senne Lammens has joined the club, subject to international clearance and registration.
'The goalkeeper has signed a contract until June 2030. Lammens has already played 64 games for Royal Antwerp and helped them win the Belgian Super Cup in 2023. The 23-year-old was named in the Belgium national team squad for the first time in March.'
Lammens said: 'I am extremely proud to be joining Manchester United, it is a real dream come true. The past few years have been an amazing journey, it's now ended in an incredible destination and hopefully the beginning of something special.
'You can feel the positive atmosphere that is being created here, and I know that I can make a real impact at the club in the coming years.
