Arsenal midfielder Martin Zubimendi has left teammate Viktor Gyokeres shocked with his goalscoring exploits in the Premier League win over Nottingham Forest.

The Gunners got back to winning ways after the international break with a 3-0 victory over Ange Postecoglou ’s side.

Zubimendi scored his first goals for Arsenal since making the move to the Emirates Stadium. His brilliant strike to open the scoring came in the 32nd minute.

Gyokeres doubled Arsenal’s lead just after the half-time interval. Zubimendi then got his second of the game to put the result beyond doubt with 11 minutes left to play.

Zubimendi is not known for his goalscoring, but Mikel Arteta will be keen to see him add this to his Arsenal game, even if it does surprise his own teammates.

Speaking to TNT Sport after full-time, Arsenal striker Gyokeres outlined his surprise at both of the midfielder’s goals. "I haven't seen him do that in training, to be fair, so it was good that he pulled that one out," he said of the first goal.

“The header as well, I was a bit surprised with that, but great to see him score two."

The game had a bit of extra interest with former Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou taking charge of his first Forest game. But it was Arsenal players who grabbed the headlines, with summer signings Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke in particular impressing with their performances.

"Those two are amazing in their positions," Gyokeres added. "They always do something special. We definitely saw that today."

Gyokeres’ goal was his third for Arsenal since leaving Sporting in the summer, with all three goals coming at the Emirates Stadium. "It feels amazing, just a great feeling to score and get the win as well," he said.

"It feels great, the guys in the team have been amazing," he added on settling in at Arsenal. "It's been so easy to get into the group. But, of course, there is a bit of time where you have to settle in with everything around."

Arsenal are back in action on Tuesday night when they take on Athletic Club away from home in the Champions League opener (5.45pm kick-off). Arsenal won’t be complaining if Zubimendi continues to shock his teammates with his goalscoring.
