UEFA plan ownership rule change that will leave Premier League club furious

UEFA may change rules on multi-club ownership despite imposing a ban on Crystal Palace . The South London side were set to play in the Europa League this season after winning the FA Cup .

But due to John Textor’s involvement in both Palace and French side Lyon, Palace were banished from the competition and demoted to the Conference League. Nottingham Forest claimed their place.

The Eagles however could be left furious with the latest suggestions that UEFA are considering a change to the rules. According to The Guardian , European football’s governing body will relax the deadline of 1 March for clubs to resolve any multi-club issues.

As per the new rules, clubs would be given until the same deadline to flag up any issues, but would have additional time to resolve them. It is suggested that the new deadline would be at the start of June, shortly before the qualifying rounds of the Europa League and Conference League commence.

Clubs however will still have to make UEFA aware of any potential conflict before the original deadline, with a failure to do so still being considered as a breach of the rules. The slight tweak was discussed at the newly-formed European Football Clubs in Rome last week.

UEFA’s decision comes after Palace chairman Steve Parish urged a change to the rules after his side’s ban was upheld. Speaking to Sky Sports , he said: "It will change. Nobody's going to stick with this rule. It's a crazy rule. I don't understand why the panel have come to the conclusion they've come to.

"We've proved to them beyond all reasonable doubt that John didn't have decisive influence over anything to do with the football club, yet still they've come up with this decision, which seems incongruous."

He added: "Either you have these multi-clubs or you ban them. They need to find a way through this. But notwithstanding that, we were never part of one. As everybody knows my position on them, I don't think they're generally the right thing to do. Other people disagree with me. That's fine. But we have nothing to do with them.
