Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma 's nightmare season has continued after he was stretchered off while on international duty.

The 29-year-old is yet to play a competitive minute for Spurs under Thomas Frank, having picked up an injury in training ahead of the first Premier League match of the campaign against Burnley.

Bissouma recovered from that knee issue to return to training before the international break and he was called up by Mali for their final pair of World Cup qualifiers.

He came off the bench on Sunday to feature against Madagascar, however his first appearance of the season lasted barely a minute to spark fears of another spell on the sidelines.

Bissouma went down within 30 seconds of coming on after a challenge and was unable to continue, with the midfielder stretchered off the pitch.

It remains to be seen how serious the injury is, but that match was Mali's final one of the international break and so Bissouma will now return to north London.

After barely featuring in pre-season, Bissouma was dropped by Frank for the UEFA Super Cup against Paris Saint-Germain after repeatedly being late.

The Spurs boss insisted after that the issue was resolved and Bissouma was in his plans, but the midfielder will be out of contract at the end of the season.

Spurs were open to selling the player this summer in a move that appeared to suit all parties and talks were held with Galatasaray over a loan deal with an obligation to buy.

However, those discussions broke down and Bissouma's injury hampered hopes of a transfer in the final days of the window.
