The summer transfer window has closed and for Arsenal it has been an extremely busy and fruitful one. Eight players have been brought into the club by Andrea Berta while five senior players, all confirmed on deadline day, have departed Emirates Stadium.
Viktor Gyokeres, Eberechi Eze, Noni Madueke and Martin Zubimendi have been the marquee permanent additions with just over £200million spent on those four. Christian Norgaard, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Cristhian Mosquera have also been brought in as more than adequate depth.
That was proven by the latter coming off the bench to replace William Saliba very early into the Gunners' Premier League clash against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday and not looking out of place. The day after that 1-0 defeat, Piero Hincapie arrived on a loan deal, which includes an option-to-buy, from Bayer Leverkusen.
Oleksandr Zinchenko, Reiss Nelson, Fabio Vieira and Jakub Kiwior also saw deadline day loan moves confirmed while Sambi Lokonga has joined Hamburg on a permanent basis.
It's fair to say that Berta has raised the ceiling of the Arsenal squad, but injuries could quickly leave them with limited options. Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz, Leandro Trossard, Bukayo Saka, Norgaard and now Saliba have all suffered issues already this season.
Further issues could see Arteta look into the club's academy setup and while he has given opportunities to young players, the Gunners boss is also keen to carefully manage talents for the future.
That may result in a quick look into the free agent market with a number of experienced players not under a contract, as per transfermarkt. Former Arsenal star Takehiro Tomiyasu tops the list following the mutual termination of his deal earlier this summer.
The Japan international is expected to remain out with a knee injury until the end of the year. Kurt Zouma is another ex-Premier League defender available after departing West Ham at the end of his contract having spent the last 12 months at Saudi Pro League club Al-Orobah.
Josh Brownhill is also a free agent after turning down a lucrative contract to stay at Burnley. Approaches to sign him have been made by Leicester City and Wolves but he remains without a club.
If Norgaard's injury keeps him out for longer and one of Declan Rice or Zubimendi joins him in the treatment room, Arsenal could do a lot worse than signing Brownhill.
Sergio Reguilon , who has had spells at Tottenham, Brentford and Manchester United recently, is available. Kelechi Iheanacho, Josh Dasilva and Hakim Ziyech are other players that can be signed for free that have Premier League experience.
