Harvey Elliott seals Liverpool exit in deadline day deal worth £35million

Harvey Elliott has completed a loan move to Aston Villa from Liverpool with a £35m obligation to buy. But the Reds have secured both a sell-on clause and a buy-back clause in the deal which they would not have allowed the deal to happen without.

Elliott, 22, was eager to get more first-team football and build on another impressive summer with England U21s. And when Liverpool signed Alexander Isak from Newcastle , it was clear he would have to go find that away from Anfield.

Villa beat off competition from RB Leipzig while Elliott turned down approaches from West Ham and Fulham earlier in the window.

In a statement confirming Elliott's arrival, Villa wrote: " Aston Villa is delighted to announce the signing of Harvey Elliott from Liverpool. The 22-year-old joins the club on an initial season-long loan deal with an obligation to buy conditional on appearances.

"During his time at Anfield, the attacking midfielder won two Premier League titles, a FIFA Club World Cup, a League Cup and two FA Cups. On the international stage, he was named Player of the Tournament as he helped England’s Under-21s win the UEFA European Under-21 Championship earlier this summer.

"Welcome, Harvey!"
