Romeo Lavia has sent a message of support to one of his Chelsea teammates after he suffered an injury while on international break. Lavia has made a total of 23 appearances for the Blues since his £53m move in August 2023 and has himself struggled with countless setbacks.

Now back in first-team training, the former Southampton man will hope to make an impact this season, with breaking up the midfield duo of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo a tough ask. But Lavia is keen to share his support for other members of the Chelsea squad, none more so than Dario Essugo, who picked up an injury whilst away with Portugal’s Under-21s.

Essugo has already announced he underwent surgery for an issue with his thigh, and Lavia was quick to support the youngster on his road to recovery.

Lavia wrote on Instagram: "Scary times incoming (not for us), knowing you’ll be back stronger and better Pepeno!”

Essugo joined Chelsea from Sporting CP earlier in the summer on an eight-year contract until the summer of 2033, for a fee of around £18.5 million.

Chelsea confirmed his issue in a club statement posted earlier this week, and he is estimated to be out for several months.

"Midfielder Dario Essugo has undergone successful surgery today on his thigh," the announcement began .

"The 20-year-old sustained the injury whilst on international duty for Portugal's Under-21s.

"Medical assessments confirmed surgery would be the required course of action, and Dario will now begin his recovery at Cobham, supported by the club's medical department."

Essugo did play at the FIFA Club World Cup but is yet to make his Premier League debut, something he will now have to wait a little while longer for.
