Newcastle duo Bruno and Joelinton's flight makes emergency U-turn

NEWCASTLE stars Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton suffered a travel nightmare while flying to South Korea for the international break.

The duo were due to land in Seoul on Tuesday before joining up with Carlo Ancelotti and the Brazil national team for a training session.

However, the plane they were travelling on completed a U-turn midway through the journey.

A broken window forced the pilots to return to Amsterdam.

They travelled for around 12 hours in total - without landing anywhere near the destination.

The Newcastle stars are now expected to be transferred onto different flights in the hope of arriving on Wednesday afternoon.

Reports in Brazil claim that Guimaraes will arrive in South Korea first as he is taking a connecting flight through another European country.

Meanwhile, Joelinton is expected to make the journey from Amsterdam.

Brazil have a training session scheduled for 4pm local time at Goyang Stadium.

Joelinton will not arrive in South Korea in time.

It is currently unclear if Guimaraes will be there.

Brazil face South Korea in a friendly on Friday afternoon.

They will then complete a 780-mile journey to Tokyo straight after the game ahead of a clash with Japan next Tuesday.

After that, Guimaraes and Joelinton will embark on the gruelling 5,768-mile venture back to the North East where they’ll have less than 48 hours to prepare to face Brighton - which includes another 353-mile trip to the South Coast - on October 18.

Ahead of the international break, midfielder Guimaraes explained: "The international break has not come at a very good time for us, because we just want to keep going.

"But now we have to go to the international, play well and come back fit because we have a very important game when we come back.

"I'm going to South Korea, it's crazy. But yeah, we have to go there. Playing for my country is always a reason to be proud though for me. But it's a little bit far away.

"The most important thing now is to get the jet lag right. Go there, train well. It's important for us as well to be there with our national team and most important is to stay fit."

Newcastle cruised to a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest in their final game before the international break.

However, the Brazilian stars Igor Jesus and John Victor - who both featured in the Forest squad at St James' Park - have already arrived in Seoul and took part in training on Tuesday.
