Manchester United have been warned why Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is unlikely to step into Ruben Amorim's shoes should a managerial change be made. Amorim's position as United head coach has come under intense scrutiny in recent weeks, following a string of poor performances during his opening months in charge.
The Red Devils headed into the international break on a high, however, after securing a 2-0 triumph against Sunderland in the Premier League . Talk surrounding Amorim's future has sparked rumours about potential successors being sounded out, with various candidates reportedly in the frame.
Crystal Palace's Oliver Glasner , Brighton's Fabian Hurzeler and Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola have all been mentioned in connection with the Old Trafford hot seat - alongside Howe being touted as a possible candidate, reports the Manchester Evening News .
Nevertheless, former Newcastle United midfielder Jeff Hendrick reckons United are set to persevere with Amorim for at least one more transfer window. Hendrick also outlined why he doesn't anticipate Howe accepting the role as United boss should the chance present itself.
"I would be so surprised if the Manchester United job came available and Eddie Howe took it. I think it's a really, really tough job to take now," Hendrick told Boyle Sports .
"They're kind of stuck. You look at Ruben Amorim coming in, and he had a good profile of what he'd done previously, but he looks disheartened.
"He looks disheartened even though he's had a summer to get a couple of signings in. I think they're better off maybe sticking with him for another transfer window, but who knows if they will.
"Touching on Eddie Howe, he's got the run of the club at Newcastle now with how well he's done. He's able to bring in the players he wants, and let go of the players he doesn't want.
"The fans love him. I don't see why he'd leave. I think for him, his target is to consistently hit Champions League football with that club."
United's next match after the international break will see them take on bitter rivals Liverpool at Anfield on October 19. Amorim will be determined to continue their winning form when they leave Merseyside in just under two weeks time, with Liverpool on a three-game losing run including the latest two in the Premier League.
