Manchester United top, Liverpool bottom half - Premier League table according to xG

Manchester United currently sit top of the Premier League table, according to xG (expected goals per 90 minutes) despite a mixed start to the new campaign. Ruben Amorim's side picked up their first victory of the season on Saturday as they defeated newly promoted Burnley 3-2 at Old Trafford thanks to a last minute Bruno Fernandes spot kick.
Football analytical website Opta has taken a look at the xG of each team in the Premier League over the opening three matches to create an alternative table. The figures suggest that the Reds should have scored more goals than any other team in the division due to the amount of quality chances they created.
United are joined in the xG top four by Chelsea , Brighton and Manchester City respectively. The Seagulls and City played out a thrilling contest on Sunday afternoon with Fabian Hurzeler's side coming back from a goal down to defeat Pep Guardiola's men 2-1.
Chelsea meanwhile carried on where they left off last week with a comfortable 2-0 victory over local rivals Fulham at Stamford Bridge. Liverpool may be leading the way in the Premier League with the only 100 per cent record but their xG paints a different picture.
They sit in the bottom half of the alternative table despite their 1-0 victory over title rivals Arsenal at Anfield. Down at the bottom, it appears to be worrying times for Newcastle .

After losing Alexander Isak on deadline day to the league leaders, they struggled to a goalless draw at Leeds United on Saturday evening. Aston Villa also sit in the bottom three of the xG table after a 3-0 thrashing against Crystal Palace while Wolves round off the table after 3-2 loss to Everton at Molineux.
Elsewhere, Bournemouth handed Tottenham their first league defeat under Thomas Frank. Sunderland came from behind to beat Brentford and West Ham eased pressure on Graham Potter with a 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest .
