Manchester United reveal shortlist for August Goal of the Month award
Manchester United have confirmed which strikes are vying to win the club’s August Goal of the Month accolade.
United have endured a tough start to the 2025/26 season, winning one game, losing two and drawing one across the Premier League and Carabao Cup.
The Red Devils began their campaign with a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, followed by a frustrating 1-1 draw against Fulham that offered a reality check.
Things worsened for United following their humiliating defeat on penalties to League Two club Grimsby Town. This loss saw Ruben Amorim and his players dumped out of the EFL Cup in the second round of the competition.
But, United ended August with a 3-2 victory over Burnley, moving up to ninth place in the Premier League standings.
United have revealed that four goals are vying to win the August Goal of the Month prize.
These are: Bryan Mbeumo’s strikes against Grimsby and Burnley, Harry Maguire’s header vs. Grimsby and Bruno Fernandes’ late penalty that sunk the Clarets at OId Trafford.
Mbeumo opened his United goalscoring account in fine style, dancing through the Grimsby defence before tucking the ball into the bottom corner with his left foot. The goal was important, as it halved the deficit for United and gave them an avenue back into the game.

The summer signing followed that up with an equally important goal against Burnley, finding the back of the net mere moments after the visitors had restored parity and threatened to add to Amorim’s woes.
Diogo Dalot demonstrated great strength to ward off a Burnley defender before he crossed the ball into Mbeumo, who made no mistake from close range to make it 2-1 to United.

Burnley would go on to make it 2-2 on the afternoon, but Fernandes scored an added-time penalty to win the game and secure all three points for United.

Maguire’s goal, was also netted late on and completed United’s comeback over Grimsby, forcing the game into a penalty shootout.

United are back in action on September 14, when they face Manchester City at the Etihad.
