Manchester United defender Diego Leon has made his senior international debut for Paraguay , featuring in a 2-0 defeat to South Korea today.

The 18-year-old joined the Red Devils in the summer but has yet to make his official debut for the Old Trafford club in a competitive game.

Leon featured for Man United in pre-season, playing against Leeds United , West Ham United and Bournemouth.

He has been training with the first-team but has yet to play a competitive game for the senior squad given the options available to head coach Ruben Amorim in his position.

The teenager came on for the final nine minutes against the Asians having watched the 2-2 draw against Japan last Friday on the bench.

Paraguay has qualified for the 2026 World Cup and the Man United full-back will fancy his chances of making the squad to the tournament.

Leon has had to settle for one Premier League 2 appearance so far this term and will hope he can convince Amorim that he deserves his debut going forward.

Patrick Dorgu has established himself as first-choice at left wing-back, while veteran left-back Luke Shaw has started all seven Premier League games this term on the left of a back-three.

Getting dumped out of the Carabao Cup in August means Man United are not playing in any other competition aside from the Premier League until January.

Leon did not get a chance against League Two club Grimsby Town and will be hoping an opportunity to show what he is capable of doing presents itself sooner rather than later.

Man United have not had major injuries on the left of their defence this term and Amorim has not had a reason to change his current options.

The festive fixtures in December could give Leon a chance to make his debut if he remains on the bench until then, and he will keep working hard to ensure he is ready to hit the ground running when called upon.
