How Liverpool dressing room immediately reacted to Alexander Isak's £125m arrival

Liverpool stars past and present have already shared their thoughts on the club's record-breaking signing of Alexander Isak. The Reds announced the mega-deal for the Swedish international on Monday night.

Liverpool agreed a whopping £125million transfer fee to take Isak from Newcastle United before deadline day, ending months of relentless speculation. The deal was sealed a few hours after the deadline, with Isak being handed the No. 9 shirt left vacant by Darwin Nunez's departure.

He's now linked up with the Sweden national team for the international break before he'll return for his first training sessions as a Liverpool player. His debut could be against Burnley on September 14 in the Reds' first match following the round of World Cup qualifiers.

That is followed by clashes with Atletico Madrid and Everton at Anfield in the Champions League and Premier League , respectively. This high-profile transfer saga has sparked reactions from the Liverpool dressing room on social media, reports the ECHO .

The Reds posted multiple times on their Instagram account following the announcement, featuring photos and videos from the striker's signing day. The post confirming Isak's signing garnered over 400,000 likes, including ones from Hugo Ekitike and Milos Kerkez, as well as ex-Liverpool star Luis Diaz, now of Bayern Munich.

Another post captioned "Worth the wait" featuring a snap of Isak was liked by Virgil van Dijk and Conor Bradley, with Diaz and club legend Ian Rush also showing their appreciation for both posts.

Isak told Liverpool’s website: “It’s been a long journey to get here. But I’m super-happy to be a part of this team, this club and everything it stands for. It’s something I’m proud of and I’m really looking forward to it.

“I’m just happy it’s done and that I can get back to work. I’m looking forward to seeing my team-mates and the fans, and getting back out there.”

Isak had been absent from the Newcastle squad since before their pre-season tour of Asia and had accused the Magpies of breaking a commitment that he could leave if a suitable offer came in from a big club.

Newcastle, for whom he scored 54 times in 86 Premier League appearances, issued a notably terse statement in which they confirmed Isak’s departure for “a significant British record transfer fee.”

However, the Reds did not have it all their own way on transfer deadline day as their hopes of signing Marc Guehi were dashed at the 11th hour. Crystal Palace ’s aborted bid to land Igor Julio as a replacement is understood to be the reason why the Eagles pulled the plug on the deadline day deal.

Guehi, whose contract at Selhurst Park runs out at the end of the season, had completed a medical and looked set to swell manager Arne Slot ’s defensive options. Nevertheless, confirmation of Isak’s arrival capped an extraordinary transfer window for the Premier League champions.

Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong are among those to have already signed since the end of last season in a significant summer outlay.
