Fans spot ex-Man Utd star Lindelof in new position on Aston Villa debut

VICTOR LINDELOF surprised fans when he sealed a deadline day transfer to Aston Villa following his Manchester United release earlier in the summer.

But fans were left stunned to see what position he played on his debut for his new club.

Lindelof , 31, came on off the bench for Unai Emery 's team during their 0-0 draw with Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday.

The Swede was introduced to his new fans on the pitch in the 83rd minute.

But rather than playing in defence, where he was most often seen during his eight years at Man Utd , Lindelof was seen in an unfamiliar position.

Lindelof came on in place of midfielder Lamare Bogarde, and slotted straight into the same position for the closing stages of the match.

Fans were stunned at this turn of events, and took to social media to share their surprise.

One fan said: "No way I’m watching Lindelof play in midfield in 2025."

A second said: "Four years into Emery era and this is criminal."

Sky Sports presenter, Dan Bardell, added: "Didn’t think I would ever see Victor Lindelof playing for #AVFC a few months ago, let alone in central midfield."

While a fourth fan joked: "Eight mins to go, nil all. Who you gonna call? #Lindelof."

Lindelof's short cameo in the game meant his impact was limited, although he recorded four touches with four completed passes.

Taking to his Instagram after the match, he said: "Very happy to make my debut in these colours today!"

While his time at Old Trafford saw him used almost exclusively as a defender, Lindelof has actually played in midfield before in his career.

Lindelof played in defensive midfield for Benfica 's youth team, and played in midfield on very odd occasions after graduating to the senior squad.

He was joined at Villa this summer by former United team-mate Jadon Sancho , who joined the Villans on loan from the Red Devils but failed to make it off the bench during the clash against the Toffees.
