Breaking: Ruben Amorim dealt another pre-Manchester derby injury blow as player withdraws from international duty

Ruben Amorim will be keeping a close eye on the condition of his players representing their nations over the break.

The head coach is already navigating the potential absences of both Mason Mount and summer signing Matheus Cunha, both of whom went off in the 3-2 win over Burnley last weekend.

Now, Portugal have confirmed that Diogo Dalot has withdrawn from the squad this week due to muscle discomfort.

Nuno Tavares has been called up by Roberto Martinez to replace the departing Red, who will have to fly back to Manchester to undergo further checks with United’s physio team.

Dalot, who was awarded the No.2 upon Victor Lindelof’s release in June, has started twice already this season and featured in all four matches played, racking up 273 minutes thus far.

When Cunha was forced off in the first half of the Clarets clash , his issue appeared to be with his hamstring, given he pulled up and went straight to the ground for treatment, signalling to the bench whilst he did so, before being assisted as he exited the turf.

Mount was subsequently hooked at the interval, with Amorim revealing post-match that the midfielder had played half an hour with the unspecified injury.

United return to action with a blockbuster tie in the form of the Manchester derby on Sunday, September 14. They take to the Etihad to lock horns with their arch-rivals, who’ve also endured a turbulent start to the season.

Manchester City overturned Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-0 on opening day before losing 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur at home and 2-1 to Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex.

Meanwhile, United lost to Arsenal, drew to Fulham and overturned Burnley in a dramatic 3-2 victory, with Bruno Fernandes’ spot-kick winner coming in the seventh minute of injury time.
