Bryan Mbeumo runs riot for Man United as they snatch last-gasp win over Burnley

Manchester United forward Bryan Mbeumo took centre stage as the club secured their first win of the season against Burnley.

United took the lead in the 27th minute through a Josh Cullen own goal. Bruno Fernandes’ brilliant corner-kick delivery was met by Casemiro, whose header forced Martin Dubravka into a save. However, the ball bounced off Cullen and into the back of the net.

Burnley restored parity 10 minutes after the restart through Lyle Foster but United hit back immediately as Mbeumo fired in a Diogo Dalot cross.

The visitors drew level for a second time when Jaidon Anthony’s shot, aided by Kobbie Mainoo’s intervention, flew past a helpless Altay Bayindir. It looked like the two sides would share the spoils but Amad won a penalty for United in added time.

Fernandes stepped up and made no mistake from the spot, securing United a crucial three points.

Several United players impressed, but new signing Mbeumo stood out above the rest.

Mbeumo netted a goal but he could easily have added one or two more, with several chances falling his way, especially in the first half.

He was a danger throughout the game and Burnley struggled to cope with his power and pace.

During the time he was on the pitch, Mbeumo fired three shots – two of which were on target but one did not require Dubravka to swing into action.

The Cameroonian touched the ball 52 times and found his teammates with 26 of the 36 passes he attempted (72% pass accuracy). Five of Mbeumo’s passes were key for the team. He created one big chance.

Mbeumo attempted to connect with five crosses and three long balls. He successfully found his intended target with four crosses and all three long balls that he pinged.

The attacker won two of the four ground duels he delved into but was beaten in all three challenges he vied for in the air.

He drew two fouls.

It was a top performance from Mbeumo, who is growing into his role at United and looking sharper and fitter with every game.
