Wilson, who has been working as a pundit at the Club World Cup , is also one of three players who have been offered to Manchester United as free agents.
Newcastle decided against triggering their one-year option on Wilson, 33, which would have kept him on the same wage of about £45,000-a-week.
Instead, Toon handed the forward a pay-as-you-play deal but as star man Alexander Isak is set to remain in the north-east and feature every week for manager Eddie Howe , Wilson knows he would have had little game time.
Instead, Wilson , a £20million signing from Bournemouth in 2020, is looking for a new club where he will be on a similar pay-as-you-play deal but where he is likely to start more games.
A "pay-as-you-play" contract is an agreement where a player's wages are directly tied to the number of games they play, rather than a fixed salary.
This type of contract is often offered to players with a history of injuries or those returning from long-term absences.
Wilson suffered from injury issues at Newcastle but still scored 47 times in 113 Premier League appearances.
Posting on social media, Wilson said: "It's time to say goodbye after an unbelievable few years in the Toon.
"Thank you for everything. We stood strong together through the highs and some lows to help the club experience new heights.
"I am so proud to have worn the iconic number 9 shirt and to have added a little more history to it."
In the 2022/23 Premier League campaign, Wilson was Newcastle 's top scorer.
He was a late substitute in this year's Carabao Cup final where Newcastle ended their 56-year wait for silverware.
Leeds and Everton have been pipped as favourites to land the nine-capped England striker .
Man Utd could be interested but they are unlikely to make any moves until late in the transfer window as they have to move some of their big-earning players.
Former Red Devils star Anthony Elanga is flying into Newcastle on Tuesday afternoon to undergo his medical after a £55m fee was agreed with Nottingham Forest .
