Vinicius deliberately left out Xabi Alonso’s name in apology; feels hurt by treatment

Earlier today, Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Jr. issued a public apology for his angry outburst following his substitution against Barcelona.

The 25-year-old forward had lashed out on the pitch, shouting at manager Xabi Alonso, and suggesting that he wanted to leave the club, as he walked off the pitch and went right to the tunnel instead of the bench.

Having had time to ponder over his actions, the Brazilian international posted a message on his social media platform, apologising to his teammates, the club, president Florentino Perez, and the fans.

“Today I want to apologise to all the Madridistas for my reaction when I was substituted in the Clasico ,” he wrote .

“Just as I have already done in person during today’s training, I also want to apologise again to my teammates, the club, and the president.”

Intriguingly, however, Vinicius did not mention Alonso in his apology message, raising eyebrows.

Now, according to journalist Mario Cortegana of The Athletic , Vinicius deliberately left out Alonso’s name from his apology, as he feels hurt by the treatment from the manager.

After all, in the 18 games that Alonso has overseen for Los Blancos , the Brazilian has completed 90 minutes only four times, and started on the bench three times.

Moreover, seven of his 11 substitutions have come before the 75-minute mark, as was the case in the Clasico , adding up to his frustration .

The 25-year-old attacker is far from happy with how things are with Alonso, and as such, the omission of the manager’s name from the apology was very much deliberate and a pointed message.

As far as Real Madrid are concerned, senior figures at the club were far from happy with Vinicius’ reaction at the Santiago Bernabeu, while they are not pleased with Alonso’s handling of the Brazilian either.

While it was quickly decided that no fines will be handed out, Real Madrid wanted the matter to be resolved internally soon. Vinicius’ apology does exactly that, although, the exclusion of Alonso’s name from the message adds another layer of intrigue to the matter.

It will undoubtedly be a topic of discussion when the Real Madrid boss comes out for his press conference on Friday before the game against Valencia.
