Video: When Fernandes comes to Mbeumo's aid after his missed penalty
Bryan Mbeumo
On Wednesday night in the League Cup, Bruno Fernandes showed his class after Bryan Mbeumo missed his penalty against Grimsby.
Manchester United endured a disastrous evening against Grimsby, a fourth-division club, on Wednesday night. Ruben Amorim's men conceded two goals in the first 30 minutes. Mbeumo eventually managed to pull one back in the 75th minute. The Cameroonian opened his goal tally, becoming the first United player to score this season. That was before Harry Maguire headed home the equalizer.
In the lengthy penalty shootout that lasted 18 minutes, it was Grimsby who came out on top. Mbeumo had converted his first penalty as the second taker, but sent his second attempt crashing off the bar, knocking United out. Immediately after his miss, jubilant Grimsby fans stormed the pitch to celebrate.
But in footage captured by SunSport, Fernandes put aside his own disappointment and rushed to comfort his teammate as fans crowded around them during their walk to the Blundell Park players' tunnel.
