Tottenham: Thomas Frank keen to keep tradition going when he reunites with old friend
The Dane made acquaintances with the Everton boss last year
Thomas Frank is keen to keep the tradition of a post-match drink with his opposition manager alive, joking "we are all in the same s***".
Whatever the outcome of Tottenham 's trip to Everton on Sunday afternoon, Frank is looking forward to a post-match debrief with David Moyes .
The pair got to know each other well while doing punditry work together at Euro 2024, with Moyes since describing Frank as someone who liked his beers and "not a bad drinker".
"I also like my red wine," Frank laughed when asked about those comments.
"And he is also a decent drinker. Also likes his beers and red wine. He’s a very good guy and I feel privileged to get to know him.
"The first time I met him [Brentford] were in the Championship and we played West Ham in a friendly. Then we started to meet each other in different areas outside the pitch in different events and stuff like that or for dinner with other coaches and just mutual good respect.
He added with a smirk: "And yeah, we worked at the Euros and we had some good evenings.”
It is a long-standing tradition in the English game that managers share a drink after the match. There are plenty of stories of opposition managers trying to impress Sir Alex Ferguson with their choice of wine.
Those post-match meetings are far less common now, but Frank is doing his part to keep it in the game due to the unique understanding managers have of each other's circumstances.
“I will 100% go in and share a beer or a glass of red with David after the game," Frank said.
"We always do that. That I appreciate. Some do it, some don’t. I always invite coaches in. So they are more than welcome.
"I think it’s important. I think it’s a fantastic tradition. We are all in the same s***. Only a few of us that actually understand each other.
"So even that we can be a little bit, how can you say, tense on the touchline, in the end of the day, we understand each other.”
