Tottenham make suprise offer for £15m-rated Man City star - but face competition from rival Premier League club and two European giants
Tottenham have launched a surprise bid for Manchester City ’s £15million-rated defender Manuel Akanji.
Akanji has yet to feature for Pep Guardiola ’s side in the Premier League this season and has fielded interest from the likes of Galatasaray and AC Milan .
Galatasaray had agreed terms with City over a deal but the central defender has taken time to assess his options.
Akanji is believed to want Champions League football and Spurs making their move for the Switzerland international is likely to tip the scales towards remaining in England.
The 30-year-old proved an integral part of Guardiola’s Treble-winning team in 2023 but City have since signed three centre halves.
Crystal Palace have also looked at Akanji, whose preference had been to fight for his place at the Etihad Stadium.

Spurs boss Thomas Frank is hoping to strengthen his defensive options over the next few days

Tottenham failed in their quest to land Savinho, not reaching the figures of more than £70m that City required to sell the Brazilian, but have gone back to bolster their defensive ranks.
Akanji often played through pain during City’s turbulent season last term, making 40 appearances in all competitions.
