Thomas Tuchel accused of snubbing England star due to 'personal' issue

Thomas Tuchel has been accused of overlooking England star Jack Grealish for ‘personal’ reasons.

Grealish was one of the high-profile absentees from the squad Tuchel selected for last week’s friendly against Wales and Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier against Latvia .

The 30-year-old, a Premier League and Champions League winner with Manchester City , missed out despite his revival in form while on loan at Everton .

Grealish has made four assists and scored one goal in his first seven Premier League appearances for Everton but his impressive form was not enough to earn him his first England cap since October 2024.

The dynamic attacker played for England at Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup but was left out of Gareth Southgate ’s squad for Euro 2024.

That decision left several senior members of the squad surprised and disappointed but Grealish has continued to be overlooked since England’s run to the Euros final.

Republic of Ireland legend Kevin Kilbane is baffled by Grealish’s continued absence for England and says Tuchel must have a ‘personal’ problem with him.

‘Jack Grealish should be a part of the England squad now, he should be with them in this international break,’ Kilbane told Metro on behalf of Best New Bingo Sites .

‘The form he has shown this season and the way he has represented his country in the past, I see no reason or any good excuse why he isn’t playing international football.

‘He may have to earn a starting spot as the squad is full of talented wingers who have been present in the squad since he played for England.

‘Even if he doesn’t start for England, he has the ability to really affect a game if you bring him on with 20 minutes to go, and I think he would be valuable to have at the World Cup next year.

‘I can’t think of a reason why he isn’t with the squad unless it’s personal. I think it must be personal.

‘Thomas Tuchel looks to have his plans in place, and it seems as though Jack Grealish’s face just doesn’t fit.’

When announcing his latest England squad, Tuchel insisted he had ‘no problem’ with Grealish or Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden, who were also left out.

Asked if he had a problem with Bellingham, Tuchel said: ‘No. There is also no problem with Phil Foden or Jack Grealish either.

‘This is the decision, if they like it or not. They know my appreciation, they know I clearly see and observe how good Phil is at the moment for Manchester City.

‘Jack knows that I see how influential he is for Everton and is on the way to being the best version of himself. Jude knows he is a special player. He knows that I know he is a special player.

‘So, they have to accept it and nothing changes this decision against them or for the other players. It does not change my appreciation for their talent and personality.’

England will qualify for next summer’s World Cup in the United States with two group games to spare if they beat Latvia in Riga on Tuesday night.

The Three Lions, one of the favourites to win the World Cup, are top of Group K with five wins from five. Latvia are currently down in fourth.
