Thibaut Courtois reacts after Real Madrid 1-0 Juventus – ‘I think my best stop was..’

Thibaut Courtois was one of the stars in Real Madrid’s win over Juventus last night as he pulled off some stunning saves to keep Los Blancos in contention and with a clean sheet.

His efforts eventually paid off when Jude Bellingham scored and established a lead for Los Blancos , laying the platform for their 1-0 win on the night.

The win keeps Real Madrid on a perfect run in the competition and ensures they enter the Clasico on a great run of form.

Speaking to the media after his special performance, the Belgian star expressed his pleasure with the result and his 300th appearance for the club.

“I’m delighted with the win. I’m really happy, it’s nice to mark my 300th Real Madrid appearance with a 1-0 win, a decent performance and some good saves.”

“I think my best stop today was the one-on-one with Vlahović. It was really good from a technical point of view,” he added.

Praising Juventus for the battle and speaking on how the game was complicated, Courtois said,

“It was a really hard-fought game with chances at both ends. We really had to sweat to win it. It’s a big win, especially against another great side.”

“That’s 9 from 9 now. Next up we head to Anfield, so we’ll see what happens. We’ve started well and we just have to keep working hard,” he added.

Courtois then made it clear how elite an opponent Juventus were and how a win over them was no minor feat.

“This is Juventus we’re talking about, they’re not a small team. When they defend in a low block with eleven men and look to strike on the counter, it’s not easy.”

“We need to find a bit more rhythm, as the coach said at half-time. With the wingers staying out wide, we posed much more threat, Vini in particular,” he added.

He then spoke on how the team must improve before El Clásico .

“They hurt us a few times in the first half when they played through the press and that’s something we have to improve on ahead of Sunday.”

Courtois’ save against Dusan Vlahovic was one of the defining moments of the game, and the Belgian proudly talked to the media about his save.

“The coach wants me to play high up, but when the ball comes in like that, I’m not the quickest.

“ It looked like Militão was going to get there, but Vlahović is a great forward and I’m there to help out. I’m happy with the stop.”

Eventually, it was a goal from Jude Bellingham that made the difference for Los Blancos and secured all three points, on which the goalkeeper said,

“That’s what I like about those kinds of players. Vini Jr. made the move and he was alert to the rebound, he knew it could fall where he was placed. He’s rediscovering his best form.”

“It was a great performance by Jude, and by the whole team. We could have done with that 2-0 so we could be a bit more relaxed, but we’re happy with the result in the end,” he added.

Finally, Courtois gave his honest thoughts ahead of El Clásico and what he thought would unfold on the night.

“Both teams are in good shape. It’s going to be a great match, having lost a few times to them last year. It’s important that we win this year.”

“We can open up a bit of a gap in LaLiga and I’m sure it’ll be a massive game. Two really good sides and I’m hoping for a win for us.

“ We have to respect them and prepare really well,” he added.
