The one Man United stat that will worry Liverpool fans

Manchester United currently find themselves stagnating in mid-table under Ruben Amorim whose job security continues to be scrutinised on a near daily basis . The club are currently 4/1 outsiders with Betfred to pick up a shock win at Anfield with many expecting Liverpool to run out as winners on Sunday but some should exercise caution based on a statistic some may find encouraging - if you are a United fan that is.
Currently, the Red Devils have picked up just three wins from a possible seven league matches this season - with all three coming in their last five outings. They currently sit on a negative goal difference trailing the likes of Sunderland, Everton and Chelsea who all sit right above Ruben Amorim's side.
Yet there is a stat that would appear to give a degree optimism to the United faithful as the season progresses and it could well click in time ahead of this weekend's crucial trip to Liverpool. With the recruitment of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbuemo and Matheus Cunha, Amorim has made a mark on what he sees as his front three that will revive the club's fortunes.
While it has not been plain sailing so far with all three so far achieving four goal involvements right now with Cunha failing to register in both assists and goals this season, United do lead the league in xG. Yes, expected goals, everyone's favourite marmite form of measurement in the beautiful game.
Right now, United go into the weekend with 13.6 xG so far this season but are so far underperforming having just registered nine goals so far. In comparison, the current top four sides of Arsenal (11.9), Liverpool (10.9), Tottenham (7.4) and Bournemouth (8.4) have all appeared to overachieved based on their performances against the metric.

The club have on a number of occasions already this season been left to rue missed chances including dropping two points at Fulham and wasteful in front of Arsenal, Brentford and Man City with all three ending in defeats. Even if they turned things around in those matches and picked up a point apiece in their defeats, they would find themselves level on points with their arch-rivals who have suffered back-to-back defeats.
Ruben Amorim will no doubt have made the most of the international break as he plans to get bragging rights against Arne Slot this weekend as he seeks to finally get his United side to click with his philosophy and style of play. It would be the perfect way to shrug off the doubts around his future at Old Trafford if he continues to improve on results, especially against the reigning Premier League champions.
