Spain coach issues update on Barcelona star’s calf injury – ‘Feeling a bit fatigued and some discomfort’
Barcelona midfielder Dani Olmo has shockingly suffered a calf injury and is a doubt even before Spain’s first game of the international break, once again highlighting how ruthless the current schedule is on players.
The star playmaker’s setback comes as a major blow, not only to the Spanish national team but to Barcelona , who have been dealing with a storm of injuries from the beginning of the season.
Olmo’s start to the season has indeed been far from ideal, as the player has struggled to leave his mark despite having minutes. His injury, however, limits Flick’s options in the department, especially given that Fermin Lopez, too, is just returning from injury.
Spain NT manager Luis de la Fuente faced the press earlier today ahead of his team’s clash against Georgia and was asked about Dani Olmo’s situation during the same interaction.
He began by explaining that the Barcelona star was dealing with fatigue and discomfort and thus undergoing tests.
“Dani trained all week, but he came feeling a bit fatigued and some discomfort – today in training he participated for only 15 minutes and wasn’t comfortable, so we told him to stop training.”
He then revealed that the results of the test are unknown and expected soon, which will provide clarity on the exact setback he has suffered.

“He went to undergo some tests, and the medical team will provide the rest of the information. As for the rest of the players, they are in excellent condition.”
On whether he was more alarmed that it was a Barcelona player who got injured, considering the recent tension between the Spain camp and the Blaugrana , De la Fuente said:
“I deeply regret any player’s injury. I’ve said it many times; it’s the ugly side of football. It’s a risk we have to accept, because the game has this painful aspect. We’ll wait for the medical report to see how Dani is in particular.
“It hurts me more because I’ve known him for a long time and I appreciate him a lot, like the rest of the players. However, some of them I have a deeper relationship with, and Dani is one of them.”
Continuing, he added: “I know how committed he is to the national team, so his injury hurts me more. Whether the injury happens to a player from a particular club or another, it’s just a fleeting circumstance that happens in football.
“I hope no one ever gets injured, and when a player at his club gets injured, I feel the same pain, because in the end, we all love these players and wish them the best.”
