Ruben Amorim says he’s already informed desperate Man Utd star he won’t be playing against Forest on Saturday

Ruben Amorim has confirmed that sidelined Lisandro Martinez is chomping at the bit to play against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Manchester United take to the City Ground this Saturday afternoon in hopes of extending their emphatic winning streak to four successive matches.

Amorim’s side oversaw a 4-2 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion – a frequent bogey team for United – at Old Trafford last weekend and, barring a nervy final 15 minutes when the Seagulls pulled two goals back, it was otherwise a relatively comfortable and dominant display.

Forest will enter the contest on the back of four straight losses in the league. They did record a 2-0 Europa League win over Porto in Sean Dyche’s first game, but slipped back to their losing ways when travelling to face Bournemouth three days later.

The Midlands outfit sit in the bottom three in 18th place, while United are sixth and just a point away from the top four.

United confirmed today that Martinez had returned to full training with his teammates at Carrington , which comes as a major boost for Amorim, who only had the defender at his disposal for three months of his (almost) year-long tenure.

In February this year, Martinez suffered a gutting blow when he tore his anterior cruciate ligament , instantly ruling him out of the remainder of the campaign and the beginning of 2025/2026.

He has been partaking in light training sessions in recent months, but the club have been keen to ease him back into action as opposed to throwing him in a matchday squad and watching him suffer yet another layoff.

Amorim revealed this afternoon that, if it were up to the Argentine international, he’d be in the starting XI come 3pm on Saturday.

“He [Martinez] wants to go to this one, he is not going to this one, he is going to take time,” said the boss.

“He started training with us, but we had to change some things in the exercise for him, so slowly, he is going to get better.

“He is really good, he is really good, and he gives us that edge in every training session, and that is also really good for us.”
