Ruben Amorim urged Manchester United goalscorer Amad Diallo to ‘do much better’ and ‘be more consistent’ after the Premier League draw against Nottingham Forest .

Amad’s superb late volley earned the Red Devils a point at the City Ground on Saturday but Amorim used his post-match press conference to ask for more from the ‘talented’ winger.

It looked like Manchester United’s winning run might extend to four games when Casemiro continued his resurgence with the opening goal before half time.

But Nottingham Forest scored two goals in the space of three minutes straight after the interval to take the lead.

Amad’s 81st-minute goal earned Manchester United a share of the spoils and denied Forest, still sitting in the relegation zone, just their second win of the campaign.

Amorim was frustrated his team lost control of the game in the second half but said it was a fixture that United ‘would have lost last season’.

‘If I think about game, we lost control for five minutes,’ he said. ‘I feel in the recent past if we had had this situation we would have struggled so much more than today.

‘My feeling is we played well but we dropped a little bit of energy. When we have the full energy we are the better team. My players are giving everything but we have the potential to do better.

‘Sometimes we have these moments. In the end we lost two points and we need to get three points in the next game.’

On Amad, who opened his account for the season, Amorim said: ‘He has a lot of talent. We have a lot of players who are young and talented.

‘Amad can be so much better and be more consistent. You could see in first half he had some opportunities. He has potential to do better.’

While Manchester United are currently sixth in the Premier League, Forest remain 18th – four points from safety.

Forest captain Gibbs-White said: ‘It is good to get a point, but the dressing room is frustrated to not get all three [points].

‘We conceded two silly corners, and I don’t think the first one was even a corner. From where I was standing, I was pretty far away, but all the boys were saying at half-time that the ball hadn’t gone out.

‘It is something that needs looking at because it has cost us two extra points today.

‘It is time for us to kick on now. We need to start getting more points and try to climb up the table.’

Manchester United return to Premier League action against Tottenham next weekend. Forest visit Sturm Graz in the Europa League on Thursday.
