Ruben Amorim confronts 'sacked before Christmas' prediction after Jamie Carragher claim

Ruben Amorim hit back at Jamie Carragher 's forecast that he'd be sacked from his Manchester United role before Christmas after securing a crucial triumph over Liverpool . The United manager secured his first Premier League away victory in seven months as his team emerged 2-1 victors at Anfield on Sunday .

United claimed their first triumph at the reigning champions' fortress since 2016 courtesy of strikes from Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire . Beyond handing Liverpool a brutal loss, Arne Slot's outfit have now suffered four consecutive defeats across all competitions for the first time since 2014.

While Amorim achieved successive league victories for the first time since assuming control nearly 12 months ago. During his post-match media briefing, Amorim specifically mentioned predictions that he would be dismissed by Christmas - an opinion put forward by Carragher earlier this month.

The Portuguese tactician declared: "It is really important. I don't have many wins in Manchester. It is really important back to back, every detail of this game, the spirit when we suffer a bad moment or control, all the small things was perfect.

"Let's try to do that next week. It is really important for our fans, they struggle against Grimsby and Brentford and today they saw a different team.

"I think it is not normal, it is hard to find something like this, so many bad moments and to have the fans always supporting the manager when every one of you (the media) is saying he is gone before Christmas."

Despite United's 2-0 triumph over Sunderland before the international break, it didn't prevent Carragher from predicting that Amorim will be given his marching orders within the next two months.

During The Overlap Fan Debate , the Sky Sports pundit confessed: "I don't like saying a manager should be sacked, it's disrespectful and it's a man's job, but I'm at that point where I do think Ruben Amorim's job is untenable.

"It's inevitable that this is going to happen before Christmas. His stats are unbelievable for a Manchester United manager. Fifty games as Manchester United manager, he's only scored two more goals than he's conceded."

Amorim didn't downplay the significance of the Anfield victory but was quick to shift attention to their upcoming home match against a high-flying Brighton side this weekend.

"I think that was the biggest win in my time at Manchester United," he admitted to Sky Sports. "It means a lot today but tomorrow, it won't mean a lot. It's three points and it's a good victory.

"We fought for every ball, we lost our composure in the second half but the spirit was there and that is the most important thing, if you have the spirit you can win any game. It was a good day and now I am concerned about Brighton. I will enjoy it but let's focus on Brighton."
