Red Devils finalise deal for Lammens
Manchester United have finalised a deal to sign Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens .
The transfer is valued at €21million (£18.2m) with an additional €4m in potential add-ons, and does not include a sell-on clause.
The 23-year-old is travelling to Manchester after agreeing personal terms on a five-year contract, as all parties work to complete the move before Monday’s 7pm UK deadline.
The goalkeeper position had not initially been a priority for United unless Andre Onana left, but the situation changed following their opening weekend defeat to Arsenal.
Onana missed the 1-0 loss against the Gunners, with Altay Bayindir starting instead. The 27-year-old Turk was at fault for the only goal, failing to deal with an inswinging corner that allowed Riccardo Calafiori to score.
Bayindir then featured in United’s next two Premier League games, while Onana returned for the Carabao Cup tie against Grimsby Town, making two errors as United drew 2-2 with their League Two opponents and were eliminated on penalties.
Onana, 29, has been United’s first-choice goalkeeper since joining from Inter in July 2023 for €51million (£43.9m, $57.4m).
United have also extended veteran Tom Heaton ’s contract for another year. The 39-year-old has not featured in senior competitive matches over the past two seasons but has played 45 minutes in each of the club’s post- and pre-season friendlies this summer.
