Rashford Not Barca's Top Priority as Registration Woes Loom

MARCUS RASHFORD has reportedly been told that he is not Barcelona's number one priority for La Liga registration amid concern he could have to wait to make his debut for the Catalan club.

Rashford, 27, joined Barcelona on loan from Manchester United this summer but is yet to be registered as an official player with La Liga due to Barca's financial woes.

The Spanish giants have been in a constant battle with La Liga chiefs to register some of their best players in recent seasons, with the league claiming that they do not have the financial capacity to add new signings to their ranks.

That was evident last season, when Barca fought to get Dani Olmo and Pau Victor registered by raising funds by selling VIP boxes at the revamped Camp Nou for £83m.

They now face the same issues with Rashford and their other new arrivals.

With one of their highest-earners Marc-Andre ter Stegen a long-term absentee, the club felt that they had found a loophole in order to solve their issues.

Should La Liga bosses deem the German's injury to be severe enough to cause him to miss at least four to five months, Barca would be able to reallocate the funds for his wages elsewhere .

However, Spanish outlet Marca claim that Rashford isn't the number one priority to be registered if Barca are successful in their plans.

Instead, new goalkeeper Joan Garcia is thought to be the first name on the list for registration, with Rashford behind him in second spot.

Should Barcelona fail to register both players, then Rashford would be unable to make his debut in La Liga this weekend when the Blaugrana take on Mallorca.

However, club president Joan Laporta has hinted that the club are hopeful that they can register both players.

He said this week: "We're working to make it happen.

"With Marc's [ter Stegen] decision, we have the option of registering Joan Garcia, and we're working on the rest.

"This week we'll have news, hopefully good news, to see if we can register them before La Liga starts. And if we can't, we have time."

While reports claim Rashford is "calm and confident" that he will be registered as a Barcelona player.
