Raiola brings Donnarumma to Man City after Italy duty: ‘Welcome to Manchester’

Italy no.1 Gianluigi Donnarumma has completed his national team commitments for the month and is now en route to England for the first time since completing his transfer from Paris Saint-Germain to Manchester City at the end of the summer transfer window: ‘Welcome to Manchester’.

Donnarumma played the full 90 in both of Italy’s World Cup qualifiers over the last week: A 5-0 win over Estonia and a hectic 5-4 victory away against Israel on Monday night.

With the international break now over for the Italy squad, the players are returning to their club teams on Tuesday, and for Donnarumma, that means heading to Manchester instead of Paris.

The former Milan and PSG stopper joined Man City at the end of the transfer window for a reported fee of €27m after being shown the exit door at the Parc des Princes, just a few months after his role in winning the club’s first ever Champions League title.

Donnarumma had been into the final year of his contract with PSG, and had not come to an agreement over an extension, despite months of negotiations. That means that PSG risked losing him for free at the end of his contract next summer.

Instead, PSG brought in France international Lucas Chevalier for a fee of €55m including bonuses and add-ons, and were then happy to let Donnarumma leave.

The 26-year-old was not in Manchester at the time that his transfer went through, and with a busy schedule, reported immediately for national team duty with Italy once the move was completed.

That means that he is now heading over to Manchester for the first time since his transfer from PSG was completed.

His agent, Enzo Raiola , has recently shared a picture of himself with Donnarumma on a flight heading for England with the caption: ‘Welcome to Manchester’.
