Premier League issue immediate Casemiro red card explanation after Man Utd flashpoint

The Premier League have now clarified the reason behind Casemiro's dismissal during Manchester United's match against Chelsea . Casemiro had already been booked before he netted United's second goal.
However, his challenge on Andrey Santos near the half-way line as the first half drew to a close led to his sending off. In the aftermath of United's disappointment at the Brazil midfielder's expulsion, the Premier League has in turn shed light on their decision.
Posting on the Premier League Match Centre social media account, on X, they said: "The referee issued a second yellow card to Casemiro for a holding offence that stopped a promising attack. There was no VAR involvement in the second yellow card as per VAR protocol."
As the sending off was due to a second bookable offence, United will not be able to appeal the decision, meaning Casemiro must accept his punishment. It was his fourth red card for the club.
Luckily for United, though, Casemiro won't be out of action for long. That's because a second yellow card results in a one-match suspension.
This means United will be without the Brazilian for their journey to Brentford for Saturday's early Premier League kick-off next weekend. Casemiro will then return to United's plans the following weekend when they take on AFC Sunderland on October 4.
Earlier in the match, Chelsea found themselves a man down when goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was sent=off for bringing down Bryan Mbeumo outside the box. The stopper was shown a straight red card, but will only serve a one-match suspension as the decision was made for denying a goal-scoring opportunity.
His ban will come into effect midweek when Chelsea head to Lincoln City for their Carabao Cup clash. That means there will, ultimately, be no Premier League punishment for him.
