Arsenal make the 155-mile journey to Port Vale on Wednesday night for their fourth match in just 11 days, as they continue a hectic run of fixtures with a Carabao Cup third-round tie.

Despite the demanding schedule, bookmakers are backing Mikel Arteta’s side, pricing the Gunners at 1/10 to secure a result inside 90 minutes.

It’s not hard to see why.

Arsenal arrive in buoyant mood after snatching a dramatic late equaliser against Manchester City on Sunday, a result that maintained momentum following excellent wins over Nottingham Forest and Athletic Bilbao.

There are doubts over the availability of Piero Hincapie, while Noni Madueke could be sidelined until November having suffered serious knee damage.

However, Arsenal’s depth means their absence is unlikely to have a significant impact - especially with Bukayo Saka and Ben White having returned to full fitness.

As for Port Vale, the League One side have reached the Carabao Cup third round for just the second time in 16 seasons, following impressive victories over Blackpool and Championship outfit Birmingham.

Manager Darren Moore’s team have also recovered well from a difficult start to their league campaign, recording back-to-back wins against Exeter City and Mansfield Town to build some positive momentum.

History suggests Mikel Arteta takes the Carabao Cup seriously - regardless of the opposition.

At this stage of the competition last season, Arsenal faced Bolton and still named a strong starting XI featuring Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, and Declan Rice, all of whom played over an hour.

A similarly strong lineup is expected on Wednesday, which could spell trouble early on for a Port Vale side that share the worst home record in League One (W1, D1, L3) and are contending with several defensive absentees.
