Patrick Dorgu offers silver lining for Man United in 3-0 derby loss to Man City
Patrick Dorgu offered a glimpse of promise for Manchester United despite their 3-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City.
Phil Foden opened the scoring in the 18th minute, heading home a cross from Jeremy Doku, who had breezed past Luke Shaw before picking him out in the box.
United went into the break still in the game, but City doubled their advantage just moments after the restart.
The hosts took full advantage of some pitiful defending from Leny Yoro and Luke Shaw yet again, which ended in Erling Haaland finding the back of the net.
Haaland secured his brace in the 68th minute, breaking from his own half on a counter-attack before coolly slotting the ball into the bottom corner beyond a helpless Altay Bayindir.
Ruben Amorim’s men have won just one of their four Premier League games, with the latest defeat leaving them in 14th place, ahead of their upcoming meeting against an unbeaten Chelsea side.
Several United players simply didn’t show up vs. City, but one who did was Dorgu.
Dorgu tried to make things happen, even though not much came off, especially in attack. His final ball and decision-making in the final third still need plenty of work, though he did show fight and determination.
During the time he was on the pitch, Dorgu touched the ball 59 times and managed to find his teammates with 19 of the 27 passes he attempted (70% pass accuracy). Three of his passes were key passes.
He aimed seven crosses, finding his intended target with four of these.
The Dane fired two shots, but both were off-target and didn’t really trouble Gianluigi Donnarumma. He completed just one of the four dribbles he embarked on.
Dorgu was good defensively. He won nine of the 13 ground duels he contested and two of the four aerial duels he vied for.
The 20-year-old drew four fouls and put in as many tackles.

Dorgu will be hoping to build on those positives and help the team finally turn a corner and put together a run of strong performances and results.
