Official: Barcelona announce new addition to Hansi Flick’s staff

Confirming what has been well known at this point, FC Barcelona have made an official statement to announce the return of former midfielder Thiago Alcantara as part of Hansi Flick’s staff.

The former La Masia graduate had been a part of the coaching staff under the German tactician briefly upon his arrival last summer, but had to leave after a couple of months. Now, at the request of Flick, Thiago has been brought back as an assistant coach.

“Thiago Alcantara’s first official day as a member of the technical staff. This Thursday, the former Barça player began working on the pitch as a member of the first team’s technical staff, as assistant to coach Hansi Flick,” the statement read.

Providing an insight into his role, Barcelona added: “His task will consist of contributing to tactical aspects and the preparation of training sessions, among other tasks, contributing his experience and vision of the game to enrich the team’s daily work.”

The statement does not reveal the length of the contract that Thiago has signed, but his return to Barcelona as part of the coaching staff is a great move.

After all, in his short time with Flick’s staff last year, the former midfielder had made a great impression and will hope to carry on from where he left off.
