Morgan Gibbs-White: Man United are “incredible” under Ruben Amorim

Morgan Gibbs-White has praised Manchester United’s improvements under Ruben Amorim this season as “incredible to see” with the 25-year-old midfielder preparing to face the Portuguese tactician’s side this weekend.

The Red Devils are currently sixth in the Premier League table, just one point off fourth-placed Sunderland – one of the major surprise packages this season.

But it was United’s 2-0 victory over the Black Cats which sparked Amorim’s side into life as it was followed up by back-to-back wins over Liverpool and Brighton.

It’s the best run of form, and performances, United have produced since their head coach’s arrival from Sporting CP last year.

There were signs of these improves earlier in the campaign, with a combination of poor finishing and defensive errors (as well as two missed penalties) conspiring to snatch defeats and draws the from the jaws of victory.

INEOS pointed to these underlying statistics as evidence for why their continued faith in Amorim was justified, despite acute pressure following the 3-0 loss to Manchester City and, in particular, the 3-1 defeat against Brentford.

The upturn in results in October has gone some way to rewarding this belief with Old Trafford a raucous cauldron of support on Saturday evening after Brighton were dispatched in a 4-2 win which was even more dominant than the score line suggests.

Next on the agenda for United?

An away trip to Nottingam Forest to face Gibbs-White and his teammates, now managed by Sean Dyche after Ange Postecoglou’s dismissal.

Amorim will likely have been cursing his luck that the Australian manager was not still in charge at the City Forest Ground with Postecoglou’s style of football perfectly suiting United’s ruthless abilities in transition.

Dyche will set Forest up to offer a much sterner challenge to break down, while seeking to capitalise through their own counter-attacks, led by the dynamic Gibbs-White through the middle.

But the England international was full of praise for his opponents, and their head coach, this weekend in an interview with Stan Sports.

When asked about United’s recent run of wins, Gibbs-White revealed “it’s been incredible to see [because] obviously they’ve been going through a tough time in the past couple of years.

“But they’ve stuck with the gaffer [Amorim] and the past four or five games you’re really starting to see how Man United should be playing, that grit and that determination to want to play for the badge.

“I feel like it’s been incredible to see, it’s something I feel like the league has missed.

“All we can do is focus on ourselves, we can’t focus on how Man United are doing and how their performances are because if we do that we’re just almost bowing down to them.

“We’ve got to focus on what we want to do and how we can win the came. I feel like this week we’ve already started to implement some ideas and obviously we’ve still got a few more days until the game so I’m sure the gaffer [Sean Dyche] will have more ideas of how we can beat them.”

It’s a classy message from a classy player – and there are few better indicators of a team’s progress than their opponents’ assessment of them.
