Mikel Arteta reveals Arsenal hope over triple injury boost for Tottenham derby clash
Gunners optimistic over key reinforcements during crucial November run, when they face Spurs , Chelsea and Bayern Munich
Mikel Arteta is hopeful that Arsenal will have Kai Havertz , Martin Odegaard and Noni Madueke back in time for next month’s north London derby against Tottenham.
The trio are all still out injured, but Arteta has confirmed they are recovering well and should be back “very soon”.
Saturday’s trip to Burnley will come too early for them, and it is unlikely they will be ready to face Slavia Prague on Tuesday or Sunderland at the end of next week.
The next international break takes place after that, with Arsenal then hosting Spurs in the first north London derby of the season on November 23.
And asked if he hopes Havertz, Madueke and Odegaard will be back for that game, Arteta said: “Yeah.
“And [I am] excited because they are tremendous players. I see them work every single day, how desperate they are to be part of the team.
“[It will be] a huge boost for the squad to have those players available again after such a long, long time. So, really happy that I think it is going to be very soon.”
Havertz injured his knee in the first game of the season against Manchester United and had to undergo surgery. The German has not played since.
Madueke also injured his knee against Manchester City last month, but did not require an operation.
Captain Odegaard has endured an injury-hit campaign so far, twice hurting his shoulder and then damaging his knee, too.
“I would say weeks, and some of them pretty soon, hopefully - if they keep evolving the way they are doing,” said Arteta.
“Difficult to put a game on it, you know that we have the international break - which is a two-week break there.
“And after that, I think we will have some back. I don’t know if it is going to be all of them, some of them, but they will be quite close by then.”
Arsenal will also be without Gabriel Martinelli for Saturday’s game at Turf Moor due to a thigh injury, as well as long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus.
William Saliba could be fit, though, after missing Wednesday’s win over Brighton in the Carabao Cup with a knock.
“Saliba, we have to wait and see,” said Arteta. “We have another training session this afternoon.”
