Matheus Cunha is glad to see his manager’s mindset improving after being ‘always very stressed’ while Manchester United struggled for results.

Ruben Amorim has found things tough since he took over at Old Trafford nearly a year ago, with consistently good performances proving very difficult to come by.

However, three wins on the spin and four in the last five games mean that things are as positive now as they have been under the Portuguese.

A rousing 4-2 victory over Brighton on Saturday followed wins over Sunderland and at Liverpool, which have seen the Red Devils climb to fourth in the Premier League table.

Cunha scored his first goal for the club as he opened the scoring against the Seagulls and is pleased for his boss after a spell which has been immensely taxing for him.

‘Everyone has full confidence in Amorim. He is someone that pushes us forward,’ said the Brazilian forward after the big win over Brighton.

‘He is always very stressed until we start to win, and then he improves every day. Of course, he deserves this, Man United deserve this.

‘This needs to be the normal for this club. I am so happy to be a part of this. Amazing day, I will remember this.’

Cunha has put in some impressive performances since his summer move from Wolves , but getting his first goal for the Red Devils is a weight off his shoulders.

‘Wow. I worked so hard for this. The win (for) start, to come in and I’m so happy,’ he said. ‘But of course I want a little bit more contribution and then today’s coming, we win and then everything’s fine.’

He added: ‘The guys started to joke and then said, “wow, you can score!”. These things happen and everyone pushes me and I feel so happy to be here.’

Amorim was very pleased with the display his team put on, which also saw two goals for Bryan Mbeumo and one from Casemiro.

‘I have that feeling. I think [it] was a more complete performance,’ he said.

‘You can say whatever you want to say against Liverpool , but they didn’t deserve to lose that game. We deserve to win, but they didn’t deserve to lose.

‘I think today, we did a little bit of everything. We had the ball, create chances, we defend high, we defend low. So, when it’s more complete, it’s not a statement, but I feel more complete also as a manager. So today… I think I like today more than last weekend.’

Mbeumo has been a big part of United’s resurgence of late, scoring at Anfield and then twice more at Old Trafford on Saturday.

‘We all put a lot of work in training, that’s the most important thing,’ he said. ‘What we do out there we try to repeat on the pitch. We are going to try to understand each other even better.’

On what has changed in recent weeks, the Cameroon international said: ‘The work we put in, the effort, the togetherness is the key. We try to stick to the plan and try to play as best as possible.

‘I like the challenges, I came here to a big club and I want to fight for the best places.’
