Matheus Cunha injury update will delight Amorim ahead of Manchester derby
The fixtures will get even tougher for Ruben Amorim right after the international break, with Manchester United set to face Manchester City next Sunday.
The pressure on the head coach eased a bit after the Red Devils pulled off a 3-2 win against Burnley, but not everything went right that afternoon.
Both Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount picked up injuries , with the Brazilian’s absence a big blow given the form he has exhibited for his new club since signing.
It was suspected that the ex-Wolverhampton Wanderers star had picked up a hamstring injury, but The Peoples Person had relayed that it was not as serious as feared .
There was a sense of relief among the fans when he was spotted leaving Old Trafford without support.
Now, The Sun have claimed that the 20-time English league champions are hopeful of the 26-year-old recovering in time for the Manchester derby.
“Manchester United are hopeful that Matheus Cunha will recover quickly from his hamstring tug in time for the derby at City.
“There’s a feeling at the club that Cunha’s injury is not as bad as initially feared.”
He had pulled out of Brazil’s World Cup qualifiers to stay back at Carrington to work on his recovery.
The attacking midfielder has been spotted working on his upper body in the gym and hopefully, this suggests it was only a grade one injury.
While he is yet to get on the scoresheet, Matheus Cunha has had five shots on target, the most among players yet to open their account this season.
His close control, dribbling ability and fighting spirit have impressed one and all, and Amorim will be delighted if he can recover in time for the match against Pep Guardiola’s side.
The ex-Sporting CP boss needs his best players for the all-important clash, as a positive result could go a long way in dictating his future.
