Marc Skinner: Manchester United in a “really good space” ahead of Champions League opener

Marc Skinner has been nominated for WSL manager of the month following a good start to the season with Manchester United

Marc Skinner is feeling positive about his side ahead of Manchester United’s Champions League opener on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils are still unbeaten in the league this season and come into their European curtain raiser in good form.

In their last WSL game United drew with Chelsea, becoming the first side to gain a point from the champions so far this season.

Following their sharp start in the league, United boss Marc Skinner has been nominated for WSL manager of the month.

Skinner feels confident his team can kick off their Champions League campaign with a positive result.

“I think we are in a really good space right now and we must maintain that to use to our advantage.” Skinner said. “I feel as a coach that we are building something special.

“It’s really special that we get to attack this together but we are not naive. This is a different level of opponent, different quality of player, the best in Europe.”

United face Valerenga on Wednesday night in their first Champions League game this season. The European clash is also United’s first appearance in the Champions League’s main stage.

Although they are facing a different type off opposition this week, Skinner believes that his side has what it takes to beat anyone in the world right now.

“If you want to be the best you have to beat the best,” he continued. “We must make sure we are one of those teams, but i believe in us. I believe that we are at that level.

“We have to go into that game with a business mindset of the same performance and aggression with and without the ball. If we can do that I think no team will want to play against us. That’s how much I believe in us… I really do.”

Valerenga are one of the top teams in Europe, but they should be an easier prospect at home than Chelsea away who United faced in their last game.

Skinner’s team has already proved this season that they can do battle with the top clubs. Should they kick their European campaign off with a win, United could go far in the competition this year.
