Manchester United 'make new Senne Lammens bid' as Emi Martinez contingency plan emerges

Jadon Sancho could play a role in United’s attempts to sign a goalkeeper

Manchester United could make a move for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez should they fail to complete a deal for Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens .

Ruben Amorim is keen to add depth between the sticks as both Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir have made unconvincing starts to the season .

Belgium international Lammens, 23, has been earmarked as the first-choice target, but United face a race against time to agree a deal before Monday evening’s transfer deadline.

They have sent an improved offer to Antwerp, but face competition from both Aston Villa and Galatasaray for his signature. As such, they are looking into contingency plans, with Amorim desperate to add a goalkeeper before the window shuts.

According to reports in the Daily Telegraph, United have enquired as to the availability of two-time Yashin Trophy winner Martinez.

United and Villa have held informal talks regarding a deal for the Argentina international, but a transfer will not be straightforward.

United have offered wantaway winger Jadon Sancho to the Birmingham club as a makeweight. The club are still hopeful of offloading him this summer after a loan spell at Chelsea, but a sale is proving challenging.

Sancho was reportedly close to joining Roma earlier in the window, but the move fell through, leaving his future in limbo.

United have been busy in the transfer market this summer, reinforcing their attack with the additions of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko.

Mbeumo has hit the ground running, scoring twice in four competitive appearances. Cunha, though, has been struck down with a hamstring injury, while Sesko has struggled to find his feet in early appearances.
