Manchester United agree £18.2m deal to sign Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens

According to The Athletic , Manchester United have reached an agreement to sign goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp , in a deal worth €21 million (£18.2m).Lammens has already agreed personal terms on a five-year contract and is now travelling to Manchester for his medical to complete the move before today’s deadline. The 23-year-old is a product of Club Brugge, where he made his professional debut in a Belgian Super Cup win over Genk, replacing the injured Simon Mignolet. He joined Royal Antwerp in the summer of 2023 upon the expiration of his contract with Club Brugge. He initially served as an understudy to Jean Butez but became Antwerp’s first choice last season.Lammens was one of the standout goalkeepers in the Belgian top-flight last term, showing his impressive shot-stopping and penalty-saving skills.According to DataMb , no goalkeeper in the world made more saves and prevented more goals than the Antwerp star last season. With Man United’s continuous struggles in the goalkeeping department, United decided to make a swoop for him. The Manchester outfit have also been linked with Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, but the cost of getting a deal done and the salary demand of the Argentine led the club to prioritise a move for Lammens. The Belgian goalie is the club’s fourth senior signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. He is expected to compete with Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir for the first-choice position. Bayindir has started United’s first three Premier League games but has not impressed, while Onana also performed terribly in the Carabao Cup second round defeat to League Two side Grimsby Town last week.It remains to be seen whether manager Ruben Amorim will hand Lammens his debut when Man United face city rivals Manchester City in their first game after the international break.
