Man Utd star targeted in 'dream' deal after Ruben Amorim makes stance clear

Joshua Zirkzee, who has seen limited action at Manchester United this season, is said to be the 'dream' target for Roma .

The Dutch striker, who has spent much of the season warming the bench, is reportedly contemplating a winter move. Zirkzee has only made four appearances under manager Ruben Amorim this term and hasn't started a match yet.

This season, Zirkzee has only clocked up 82 minutes on the pitch after being sidelined following the arrivals of Benjamin Sesko , Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha - which set the club back £200million in the summer. Last week, The i Paper reported that West Ham are keeping tabs on Zirkzee's situation and are considering a loan offer.

However, the Premier League side could face competition from Italy, with Napoli and Juventus previously linked to the Dutch striker.

In a fresh update from Gazzetta dello Sport , Gian Piero Gasperini is said to 'wish' for Zirkzee to join his squad, with the striker still being monitored by director Ricky Massara.

Roma are reportedly frustrated with current strikers Evan Ferguson and Artem Dovbyk. Dovbyk has only netted two goals so far, while Ferguson is still hunting for his first.

The report suggests their futures 'remain uncertain' - Dovbyk is anticipated to be available in the summer transfer window and might even depart in January.

Ferguson, who joined on loan from Brighton with a purchase option, has struggled to make an impression, leaving doubts over whether the club will exercise that clause to secure him permanently.

Earlier in the campaign, United manager Amorim recognised the frustrations felt by players such as Zirkzee but has made his stance clear.

"I want to keep Josh because he gives everything and he's trying in training but we don't know," he said back in January.

However, the Portuguese boss accepts that transfer rumours are simply an inevitable aspect of life at Old Trafford.

"I understand that but they are our players and we need everyone to have a good season," he added. "I also know that in our club everything is a lot of noise. Players are not playing.

"They want to play, and there's a World Cup. There are agents that listen to the players, talking all the time."

Zirkzee is determined to turn things around and nail down consistent playing time before next summer's World Cup.
