Manchester United could offload a third player to Turkey in efforts to further trim Ruben Amorim’s squad.

The English transfer window closed on 1 September with United managing to move on the most prominent members of their ‘bomb squad’ in Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Alejandro Garnacho.

There is still ongoing business at Old Trafford however with efforts to offload others deemed surplus to requirements by the manager with Turkey the popular destination with their transfer window open until Friday.

Andre Onana is poised to join Trabzonspor on loan until the end of the season having been told he is third choice behind Senne Lammens and Altay Bayindir at Old Trafford.

Tyrell Malacia, also among the group exiled from the first-team during the summer, is in talks to join Eyupspor after a deadline day move to Spanish side Elche fell through.

United are also trying to offload academy graduate Sam Mather who has also attracted interest from clubs in Turkey, the Manchester Evening News reports.

Teams in Sweden and Germany have also expressed interest but with those respective transfer windows closed, the Turkish Super Lig offers an immediate route to first-team football.

Mather, 21, spent the second-half of last season on loan at League Two side Tranmere Rovers.

While Amorim has frequently turned to United’s academy to bolster his squad in training and on matchdays, Mather has not been on his rader, also omitted from the pre-season tour of the US.

Operating in attacking midfield or in wide roles, the Salford-born youngster faces serious competition for a first-team chance with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Mason Mount, Amad Diallo, Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes all vying for a spot in the team.

Amorim has been desperate to rid his squad of bad apples this summer with the United boss viewing Onana’s imminent exit as a major victory in clearing the squad of ‘negative influences’, one report suggests.
