Loftus-Cheek gets shock recall to England squad for first time in 7 YEARS

RUBEN LOFTUS-CHEEK has been called up to the England squad for the first time in almost SEVEN YEARS.

The AC Milan midfielder, 29, has been added to Thomas Tuchel 's squad after Adam Wharton suffered an injury in Crystal Palace's victory over Aston Villa at the weekend.

Palace manager Oliver Glasner hinted after the game that Wharton would be forced to withdraw from the England squad with an adductor issue.

Loftus-Cheek was last involved in the England setup back in November 2018, coming off the bench in a game against the USA.

While he was called up in March 2019 too, but withdrew himself from the selection.

Loftus-Cheek has earned 10 caps across his career to date and was part of the Three Lions squad for the 2018 World Cup, featuring four times at the tournament in Russia.

It's the first time he has been called up by new England boss Thomas Tuchel , who he played under during his time at Chelsea.

Loftus-Cheek made 46 appearances for the Blues under Tuchel's guidance, scoring one goal and registering five assists.

He will join the England squad to take on Andorra and Serbia in World Cup qualifiers during the international break.

Tuchel sprung a few surprises in his initial squad announcement last week.

The German tactician omitted Trent Alexander-Arnold from the selection following his move to Real Madrid.

But handed maiden senior call-ups to Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson and Tottenham full-back Djed Spence .

Tino Livramento, John Stones , Adam Wharton, Jarrod Bowen and Marcus Rashford are among the other names introduced.

Cole Palmer , Jude Bellingham , Levi Colwill and Bukayo Saka also miss out due to injury.
