Liverpool target Rodrygo was left furious after being substituted at the weekend as his future at Real Madrid grew more uncertain. The Brazilian winger is being eyed by a clutch of Premier League clubs over the final week of the transfer window.

Reigning champions Liverpool , and Manchester City are just two to have been linked with him. Speculation over a move has ramped up following a stuttering start to the season under Xabi Alonso .

He was left on the bench for their opening La Liga game and while he started in their second match against Real Oviedo, it certainly did not go to plan. Rodrygo lasted just over an hour before being taken off in favour of compatriot Vinicius Jr .

And he was far from happy at his withdrawal as cameras picked him up ranting to defender Eder Militao on the bench before he threw his towel down in frustration. To make matters worse, his exit was then justified as Vinicius teed up Kylian Mbappe for a goal, while he also got on the scoresheet himself late on to secure a 3-0 success.

Speaking after the game, Real boss Alonso addressed Rodrygo’s performance. He said: “He had a good game. On the left side, he linked up well with Alvaro (Carreras); Arda (Guler) and Kylian (Mbappe) were also drifting over there. He had a couple of shots, and it was difficult to find spaces with Oviedo sitting so deep.”

Asked about the Brazilian winger’s future, he added: “I liked what I saw. After last week, we need everyone, and Rodrygo is one more piece of the team.”

Alonso’s latest stance over Rodrygo comes after he confirmed that the Brazilian was not on the verge of an exit from the club despite having not played a minute in Real Madrid’s season opener.

Speaking at the time, he said: “Rodrygo? Nothing is happening. I count on Rodrygo of course. It’s just a game, this was my decision."

Rodrygo, 24, joined Real Madrid from Brazilian side Santos in 2019 and he has gone on to make 271 appearances for the Spanish giants, scoring on 68 occasions. In that time, he has helped the club to three La Liga titles, two Champions League crowns, the Copa del Rey and a whole host of other trophies.

Rodrygo has just under three years left to run on his current contract at the Santiago Bernabeu after penning fresh terms in 2023. Real Madrid are back in action this weekend as they host Mallorca and Alonso could yet offer fresh insight into Rodrygo’s future with his selection.
