Liverpool are expected to escape a fine despite ‘multiple breaches’ of a Premier League rule under head coach Arne Slot , according to reports.

The Reds have been found guilty of breaking multi-ball rules in their 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.

Premier League footballs are positioned on tees around the pitch under regulations introduced in 2022, with players expected to pick them up.

Ball boys and girls not permitted to hand them over – but on several occasions after Harry Maguire ’s 84th-minute goal to give United the lead – the ball kids were seen lobbing footballs to the Liverpool players.

The multi-ball rule extends to coaching staff and those in the technical areas, with Liverpool head coach Slot also caught throwing a football to one of his players as the champions went looking for a late equaliser.

According to the Daily Mail , Liverpool are not expected to be hit with a fine and will instead get a reprimand from the Premier League, reminding them of the current rules.

Fellow Premier League side Aston Villa were fined £125,000 in August after accepting they broke multi-ball rules in no fewer than five matches.

It is said that ‘eyes were raised’ among the travelling delegation from Old Trafford after they spotted Liverpool breaking multi-ball rules on Sunday.

But United did not make a formal complaint after they secured all three points against their bitter rivals.

Speaking in his post-match press conference after his team lost at home to United, Slot was quizzed about what he felt went wrong in the game and said: ‘The result.

‘And the fact that we went 1-0 down so early. If you play United, with so many quality players they have – [and they] brought in a few new ones this summer – and if they come to us in a low block, playing so many long balls, then the last thing you would want is going 1-0 down.

‘Because that gives them even more belief. If you would have told me we are 1-0 down against a United team that played in the style they did, and you would have told me that we would create eight, nine, 10 open chances, then I would have said to you that I don’t think that is possible.

‘But it was possible. So, the second thing that went wrong is that from all the chances we got, we only scored one goal.

‘I have said it in Holland many times and maybe I’ve said it here as well, it’s almost impossible to win a big game of football – and Liverpool v United is a big game with so many quality players on the pitch – to win it with a negative set-piece balance.

‘We conceded another one and that led to us losing the game.’
