Konate Mocks Frimpong & Wirtz Over Liverpool's 4-0 Leverkusen Rout

Ibrahima Konate cheekily reminded Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz about Liverpool's ruthless victory over Bayer Leverkusen last season. Frimpong, 24, was the first to join the Reds this summer, arriving for £29.5million from Leverkusen.
His transfer was followed by Wirtz, whose £116m move broke the Premier League transfer record. They have since been joined by Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike, the latter who cost £79m.
Frimpong and Wirtz were asked about their previous experiences together during a recent shoot with the club's social media team. During filming, Konate popped in to hand over bottles of water.
On his way out, the Frenchman could not resist having a cheeky jibe at the duo, reminding them of the Reds' 4-0 victory over them in the Champions League when they were at Leverkusen.
On Liverpool's official YouTube channel, Konate asked Frimpong: "Did they ask you, 'How was the 4-0 at Anfield?'" Frimpong shot back: "My friend. Keep going, keep going bro. I scored eh?"
Konate, taken aback, responded: "You what?" After Frimpong reiterated his claim, the centre-back recalled the scoreline, momentarily forgetting that the Dutchman did score a goal, only for it to be chalked off for offside.
Though it didn't stand, it clearly gave Frimpong a sense of personal triumph. In their clash at Anfield last term, Slot's side put on a clinical display in the second half to dismantle the then German champions.

On paper, their clash was a game between two of Europe's best and most in form sides, that would be played on a knife edge. An even first half was followed by a deadly second 45 minutes from the Reds.
Luis Diaz netted a flawless hat-trick and Cody Gakpo also found the net, as Liverpool swiftly took control of the match from then-manager Xabi Alonso – who has since moved to Real Madrid – on his return to Anfield. Of course, Konate was only joking with the duo when he brought up the result.
Wirtz, Konate and Frimpong all featured in Liverpool's recent pre-season defeat to AC Milan. Frimpong stood out with his bold attacking instincts and lightning speed down the right wing.

Wirtz also played as a false nine, demonstrating his elegant movement and skill in tight spaces. Despite this, Milan triumphed over the Reds 4-2, with goals from Rafael Leao, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and a double from Noah Okafor enough to beat Slot's team, while Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo scored for Liverpool.
Reds supporters are eagerly awaiting Sunday, August 10, when Liverpool's season kicks off with a Community Shield match against Crystal Palace . Their Premier League campaign begins with a home game against Bournemouth on Friday, August 15, followed by an away game at St James' Park against Newcastle United.
The latter match could be particularly heated, as the Reds are still actively pursuing Newcastle's star player Alexander Isak. The Magpies were recently dealt a blow by the Swede, who expressed his desire to explore a move away from the club.
Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle ahead of the 2025/26 season, saving members £192 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.
