Kobbie Mainoo: Napoli pushing to sign Man United star “as soon as possible”

Kobbie Mainoo watched on from the bench at City Ground as Manchester United failed to pick all three points against Nottingham Forest.

After a positive start to the game, United lost control, conceding twice in the space of two minutes. As the game progressed, the Red Devils pushed to overturn the scoreline, but their midfield lacked intensity and composure.

Still, Ruben Amorim favoured to keep the ageing Casemiro on the pitch instead of introducing Mainoo in the second half. The Englishman is yet to start a league game this term.

Napoli are offering Mainoo an escape route in the winter transfer window, with the 20-year-old seeking regular gametime.

According to Fichajes , Napoli want to sign the gifted United midfielder on loan for the remainder of the season with a mandatory purchase clause.

The Serie A giants are prepared to cover Mainoo’s full wages for the entirety of the loan deal. He currently earns around £25,000 gross per week.

Further, they are keen to complete the signing “as soon as possible.” It is added that the offer from Naples has “surprised” figures at Old Trafford.

Napoli superstar Kevin de Bruyne is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a thigh injury in October, forcing the Partenopei to look for a new midfielder.

It is understood Napoli, who tried to sign Mainoo in the summer as well, view the United academy product as an ideal fit for their system under Antonio Conte.

Napoli signed Scott McTominay from United in 2024 and Ramus Hojlund this year, and both players have impressed under Conte.

McTominay, in particular, has proven to be a huge success, leading Napoli to the Serie A title in his debut campaign. He was crowned as Serie A MVP for his exploits in Italy.

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Napoli are planning to extend McTominay’s contract to fend off interest from several Premier League clubs and Barcelona.
