Kobbie Mainoo: Man United midfielder makes decision on Real Madrid transfer
Kobbie Mainoo’s situation continues to remain uncertain at Manchester United .
Ruben Amorim’s decision to pitch Mainoo against skipper Bruno Fernandes has had a major impact on the promising youngster’s gametime.
This decision from Amorim even led to the Englishman urging United to sanction a loan exit late in the summer transfer window. He had plenty of interest from clubs in the Premier League and abroad. Still, the club’s hierarchy were determined to keep hold of their academy product.
According to Defensa Central , Mainoo is still looking to leave United, and his representatives are exploring options.
Real Madrid were among the clubs to make an enquiry for the 20-year-old in August, and it is understood that he remains on Los Blancos’ radar as a possible January addition.
The Spanish outlet claim Mainoo would leave United “immediately” for Madrid.
Xabi Alonso is spearheading an exciting project in the Spanish capital, building the side around a core group of young players.
A player like Mainoo, who is excellent with the ball at his feet and capable of gliding past opponents in tight spaces, could thrive in Alonso’s possession-based system.
However, any move from Real hinges on either a serious injury concern or the exit of Dani Ceballos. The Spaniard was close to departing Santiago Bernabeu before deadline day, but a proposed move to Olympique de Marseille collapsed.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Napoli are also open to signing Mainoo mid-season if his situation under Amorim fails to improve.
With both Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount unavailable to face Manchester City, the United head coach is likely to push Fernandes higher up the field into one of the two number 10 positions.
As such, Mainoo is expected to start against City on Sunday. Any other decision would leave Amorim with some explaining to do.
